  1. We invite you to take a look at successes made within the Community and how we can further this development with a proper framework that is owned by both the Public and Private Sector.  This year, we will highlight the successes of Public –Private Partnerships, in order to create a market awareness of how these partnerships have reaped huge benefits for countries like South Africa, Brazil, and China- the developing nations of the world.
  2. As we showcase the various investment opportunities that EAC offers, we shall discuss the possibilities of joint partnerships, direct investments, industrial growth and economic development. Key topics such as climate change and food security, commercializing agriculture, competitiveness and value addition, investing in renewable energy and    extractive industries and reforms that make doing business in all these areas more conducive will be highlights of the conference.
  3. Participants shall deliberate on the prime factors that impact on the business environment such as the expansion in infrastructure development- looking into incentives for joint investment ventures to support the road, rail and maritime transport system. Through Infrastructure bonds and other facilities, a new system of efficiency in trade flow is created, and a quicker more effective transit path for goods is established.
  4. Occasion will be taken to take stock of the continuing progresses in such topical areas as ICT, Trade in Services and Resource Mobilization through the financial markets.
  5. As the Common Market comes into force in July 2010 it is expected that free flow of critical factors of production, goods and services among the Partner States will herald a new era in the EAC integration agenda. A fully fledged Customs Union has already witnessed improved trade and investment among the Partner States. The stage is now set for wealth creation and poverty eradication in the region.
  6. The EAC region has been acknowledged as one of the fastest reformers in the world in terms of business with Rwanda taking the lead. The Republic of Burundi, with the setting up of an Investment Promotion Agency last year the region is now destined to become the business destination of choice.
  7. The 3rd East African Investment Conference will introduce the long awaited EAC Investor of the Year Awards which will recognize and encourage cross border investors in order to strengthen the bonds of integration and reward the best performances in the business community based on defined criteria.
  8. About 2000 business and government leaders from the region and beyond, are expected this year. The forum is expected to be funded by both the public and private sector in the true spirit of mutual partnerships between both sectors. The distinguished presence of the five Heads of State will mark the climax of the business summit.

It is in this regard that we invite you to identify yourself with these efforts to promote greater dialogue for increased business engagement and the process of crafting a roadmap for not only the region’s economic future, but your businesses as well.
